Windows 10 support: what you should know

Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Windows 10 Home still installs, activates and runs, but it no longer gets free security updates. Home users could extend security updates to 13 October 2026 through Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.

A Windows 10 Home key is a low-cost way to get an older PC that can’t run Windows 11 working again with a properly activated Windows. If your PC meets the Windows 11 requirements, choose Windows 11 Home instead, because Microsoft still supports it with security updates.

What is Windows 10 Home?

Windows 10 Home is the standard edition of Windows 10 for personal computers. It includes the Start menu with live tiles, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Store, Photos, Windows Security antivirus and firewall, Windows Hello sign-in and the Xbox app.

It doesn’t include the business tools of Windows 10 Pro: BitLocker, Remote Desktop host, Hyper-V and Group Policy. You can upgrade Home to Pro later with a Pro key, without reinstalling.

License and activation

This is a retail Windows 10 Home key for one PC. It activates online, once, on the PC where you enter it. You can reinstall Windows 10 Home on the same PC as long as its hardware doesn’t change, but the key can’t be moved to another computer.

It activates Windows 10 Home only, in 32-bit or 64-bit. It doesn’t activate Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11.

Is it genuine? Why is it so cheap?

Yes. It’s a genuine Microsoft key and it activates on Microsoft’s own servers. We buy unused keys from companies that purchase Microsoft licenses in large batches and have more than they need. We get that surplus for a fraction of the retail price, which is why we can sell it for less.

How to activate Windows 10 Home

Windows 10 Home already installed?

1. Open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
2. Select Change product key and enter the 25-character key from your email.
3. Windows activates online within a few seconds.

Installing Windows 10 from scratch?

1. Download Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool and create a bootable USB stick (8 GB or larger).
2. Start the PC from the USB stick and follow the setup.
3. When setup asks for a product key, enter yours and it installs Windows 10 Home.

If activation fails

• “This product key didn’t work”: check that Windows 10 Home is installed (not Pro, and not Windows 11) and that you typed the key exactly as in the email. Settings > System > About shows your edition.
• No internet connection: Windows activates online, so connect the PC and enter the key again.
• Anything else: contact us within 15 days of your order, on live chat or at support@cheapkeys.io. We’ll fix it or replace the key, and if no working solution is possible, you get a refund under our refund policy.

Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro?

Choose Home for a personal PC used for browsing, email, office apps and games.

Choose Windows 10 Pro if you need BitLocker encryption, want to connect to this PC with Remote Desktop, or need Hyper-V, Group Policy or a company domain.

Windows 10 doesn’t need TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot, so it runs on older PCs that can’t upgrade to Windows 11.

Is Windows 10 Home still safe to use?

It still works, but Microsoft stopped free security updates on 14 October 2025 (home users could extend them to 13 October 2026 with ESU). For a PC you use online every day, Windows 11 Home is the safer choice if your hardware supports it.

Does it activate Windows 11?

Can I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro later?

Yes. Enter a Windows 10 Pro key in Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key. Windows upgrades to Pro and keeps your files and apps.

Can I reinstall Windows 10 later?

Yes, on the same PC, as long as the hardware doesn’t change.

Can I move it to a new computer?

No. The key activates once, on one PC. A new computer needs a new key.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep using it.

What if my key doesn’t work?
